In preparation for the transition to primary school reception, the period between the ages of 3 and 5 years sees a gradually increasing focus on subject based learning. CurriculumAs a leading childcare provider, we are fully committed to working towards the early learning outcomes specified by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and reinforced by OFSTED. This means that your child will follow an individual learning programme, which will include: - Knowledge & Understanding the World
- Mathematics
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development
- Communication, Language & Literacy
- Physical Development
- Creative Development
The main focus remains on learning through creativity and play, using holistic and natural materials to bring home an appreciation of the environment and bringing children into regular contact with trees, plants, animals, sand, soil, rocks and water. We also teach and emphasise the value of care and concern for others, respect for cultural diversity and for ourselves. LearningAs well as all the subjects required by the early learning national curriculum, we offer a broad range of other activities designed to bring on your child’s development. These include: Sanslimites - It’s never too early to start learning a second language. Sanslimites introduces children to basic French words and phrases at a stage when they are at their most receptive. Let’s Get Physical - Simple, fun games that develop balance, agility, co-ordination and teamwork. Children`s Yoga and Massage - Stimulation, relaxation, contentment and well-being for a happy child. Oxford Reading Tree Scheme - An early introduction to reading that involves discussions and games based on books and their characters. Each kidsunlimited nursery operates a book sharing scheme so children can build on what they learn and get into the habit of reading at home. Early Maths Corner - Basic maths covering numbers, patterns and shapes in preparation for primary school. Computer Time - Our pre-school rooms are all computer equipped and children have planned time to develop their IT skills. PlayingAnyone who knows children knows they require constant stimulation to keep them occupied and help them learn. Our programme includes gardening, cookery and dancing clubs among the extra activities available. Children learn best by experience, so there are trips and days out too usually linked to a specific topic. Outings may include visits to local parks, the zoo, science museums and natural history exhibitions. Monitoring and ProgressAs soon as they join kidsunlimited, each child is given their very own observation folder. This is used to record their development in all the key areas and forms the basis of regular meetings between parents and staff to discuss their progress. Of course, you are welcome to come and have a look at your child’s folder at any time. In addition, we provide a `How`s it Going` personal progress report twice a year. |
