kidsunlimited are fundraising to create a better environment for the children of Masibusiswe Cape Town.

Established in 1990 as a crèche and occupying two buildings, the facility in Khayelitsha in Cape Town, Africa, caters for approximately 123 children ranging from six months to six years. Many of the town’s residents are unemployed, but those lucky enough to find work are required to leave early in the mornings and work well into the evening, with the result being that many of the children are left unattended and without food & drink.

Things have only got worse for these children since heavy rainfall in 2010 devastated the building and caused the loss of the top floor. The situation for these children is now desperate.

In order to continue to provide essential childcare services, they are dependent on outside assistance and fundraising, and that’s where kidsunlimited come in!

A number of kidsunlimited nurseries have been working to raise funds for Masibusiswe nursery since 2005.

All donations have been distributed via the Merriman Lions organisation in Cape Town and we receive regular reports on the nursery’s progress and their fundraising accounts.

It costs £70,000 for a new two storey building, and kidsunlimited is determined to help them reach their target by pledging to raise £35,000 towards it. £35,000 will build a new single storey nursery and our money will enable them to build a second storey to accommodate all of the children.

October update- total raised to date £2,458 towards our total, a great start!

All of our nurseries have been working hard and fundraising, our North Cheam Nursery raised £200.00 (so far).

Bramingham collects for African nursery

kidsunlimited Bramingham played their part by collecting 30 bright yellow bags of old clothes.

“We were devastated when our nursery was damaged by floods and we are so grateful that your fundraising will help us to rebuilt”, said the Masibusiswe Nursery Manager.

Epping's SkyDive

Epping's first attempt was on the 30th of October when Malcolm, Amy, Lisa & Meggie (Room Leaders) as well as two dads from the nursery went down to the SkyDive centre in Cambridge. It was a very early start and they all had to leave their houses at 5am. They all got there with anticipation to jump. Completed the training and Malcolm, Epping's Deputy manager, name was called out to go ahead for the jump. Malcolm completed his jump and had a very unsure but happy face on him. Malcolm loved it, would recommended it to anyone.

Then it was the girls go…so they go to the plane to be told it’s too windy so they couldn’t do it.   They waited around for hours but unfortunately the wind did not drop so were sent away.

The rest of the crew all went back the 10th November and all managed to do their jump. They absolutely loved it and all said they would go straight back up to do it again. Well done Epping !

Bodyhop

Delicious cakes were sold which had been made by the children and everyone wore the South African national colours of red and yellow.

The main highlight was a copper trail which was set up around the nursery. The children loved following the path of pennies and were thrilled with their findings. In total the children managed to raise over £100 and that’s without all the coppers they found!

Balloon race at Barrow!

To help raise money for the Masibusiswe appeal Barrow decided to have a fundraising event at the beginning of each month. To help launch our appeal they decided to host a balloon race and managed to raise £100! Their target is to get to £500 by the summer, hopefully this shouldn't be too hard as the staff have come up with some other great ideas for fundraising, and have even had their own t-shirts printed up with the 'Kind' logo on, which they will then wear at the beginning of the month for each event!

February Update: Total raised to date is £8'360
